Environmental concerns hush Iowa 100 review in Cedar Rapids
At a public hearing in Cedar Rapids on the Iowa 100 project opponents call the environmental reports incomplete. Project planning director Budd cites one year delay and a $2.5 million cost while state naturalists could not locate fringed gentian and other wildlife within the right of way. Supporters urge completion to ease traffic from Blairs Ferry to Iowa 100, with IDOT to present recommendations to highway commissioners in Ames on October 12.

Linn County seeks state funding for out of state medical care
Linn County supervisors urge the Iowa Department of Social Services to cover medical and welfare costs for non-Iowan residents. They authorized Hulsberg to back ISAC in pushing state payment legislation, after a local psychiatric case raised the issue. Potential annual costs could reach 9 000 to 10 000 dollars, offset partly by about 39 000 dollars in state funds now allocated to mental health services.
