Linn County Defies State in Property Equalization Fight
Linn county officials warned Tuesday they will sue if the state Department of Revenue does not rescind its 51 percent boost to agricultural land values and 27 to 35 percent hikes in residential valuations. The hearing before Director Gerald Bair left Linn disputing the productivity figures and sales data used to set farm land values, arguing miscalculations could have overvalued land by about 70 per acre in productivity and 163 per acre in sales value. The appeal list reached 102 jurisdictions, with Cedar Rapids also presenting its case. final rulings are due by Oct. 20.
