Budget Drafters Weigh Cut In 1942 Crop Benefit Payments
Officials forecast a sizable reduction in 1942 crop benefit payments potentially exceeding 200 million dollars. Prices for farm products have surged about 45 percent from a year earlier, with further increases expected this winter and in spring. The budget proposal next January may trim parity payments and sugar program funds, while cotton parity may be dropped if prices stay above parity.

The House passed a bill to relieve wheat farmers who exceed acreage allotments but have total crops below the allotment. The measure uses normal yield instead of acreage basis to compute excess, replacing the 49 cent penalty per bushel.
