Harold E. Dahl an American aviator held by Spanish insurgents was pardoned by Generalissimo Franco after a death sentence. Dahl planned to join his bride Edithe Rogers Dahl in Paris as soon as possible. Three Russian pilots tried with him were reprieved. Dahl testified he fought under compulsion and used the alias Hernando Diaz.
The national CIO conference gathering in Atlantic City will be asked to back a federal embargo on war shipments to Japan. A resolution to demand the embargo will be submitted by representatives of over 200 000 maritime workers on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, announced Thomas Ray secretary of the New York maritime council.
