State Senator Chelgren to challenge Loebsack in 2nd District
Iowa City state Senator Mark Chelgren announced Tuesday from the Airliner bar that he will challenge five term Republican Democrat U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack in Iowa's 2nd District in 2016. Chelgren aims to run as an independent minded candidate while retaining his Senate seat and criticized party dictates. He said his platform would create jobs and curb corporate tax breaks while opposing eminent domain for the Bakken pipeline. Loebsack welcomed the challenge and pledged to protect Social Security and Medicare and grow Iowa jobs.
