Israel Deports 18 Black Israelites From Tel Aviv
Israel deported 18 self described Black Israelites who demanded to live in the country of their forefathers. They were escorted onto a KLM plane to New York after being held at Lod International airport for one night. Interior ministry officials cited lack of funds and no visible means of support as reasons to refuse entry. The group leader Kolahyah said they sought immigrant status, while officials noted previous groups from England and West Germany had been barred.
