Building Plans at Standstill Spark Church Conflict in Iowa City

In Iowa City the First Presbyterian Church rejected a $600000 new building plan by a 158 to 56 vote. The move leaves renovation or relocation options open while ongoing disputes over preserving the 112 year old structure and Baker family suspensions remain unresolved. The congregational decision does not commit to a site, only to the specific design. A future member questionnaire and further steps are anticipated as the church splits over remodeling versus relocating.
