NLRB Rejects Broad Role in Enforcing Safety Claims
The NLRB ruled that it cannot serve as a forum to enforce other federal statutes. It held Prill’s discharge for reporting truck safety concerns was not protected under Taft-Hartley or the Surface Transportation Act, noting the 1982 act postdates his firing. He had reported steering and brake issues and was told to drive a defective truck, leading to his termination. The decision, 3-0, was signed by Chairman Dotson and members Babson and Stephens. Johansen did not participate.
