Dismantling a 1860s Iowa barn to move to Adel
An 1860s era barn near Mason City, owned by Jerry and Kathy Stephens, is being carefully taken apart by Harwood Construction, an Amish firm from Fairbank. Angie Clay Nowysz of Adel funded the project after her own childhood barn burned in 2009. The goal is to rebuild the timber frame structure on Nowysz’s land using numbered, scribed timbers. The barn is described as a monument to agriculture with rich memories attached for multiple families.
