College Community caps open enrollment for 2001 02
Cedar Rapids district will not approve new open enrollment applications citing space limits and growth inside its borders. Current open enrollment students and their siblings may continue to transfer but hundreds are being turned away, mainly at kindergarten. The board will consider a bond issue to build a new elementary school and add classrooms, and will review extending the instructional support levy to fund more teachers and full time positions.

The Cedar Rapids City Council is poised to approve first reading of an ordinance expanding alcohol prohibition to 22 more parks including Anderson Kenwood Fox Trail Wellington Williams Stewart Street and related trails and lots. The measure also bans model rockets and airplanes and studded snow tires on motorcycles, threatening winter river races near Ellis Park.
