Pope John Paul II Begins Iowa Visit at Des Moines
Pope John Paul II touched down at Des Moines Municipal Airport at 1 45 p m to a smaller than expected crowd. He planned a quick hop to St Patrick's Church in Cumming and then Living History Farms as thousands gathered for a mass at the 600 acre site with estimates at a quarter million viewers. The morning crowd braved 60 degree winds while hundreds of staff and medical teams offered aid as spectators lined the hillsides and waited for the papal address.
