Governor Ray surprised by campaign literature at Cedar Rapids luncheon
Governor Robert Ray toured the state on a campaign swing while visiting a Noon Optimist Club event in Cedar Rapids. He received lit erature and a red campaign button at each place setting, though aides said he knew nothing about the distribution. Ray avoided explicit politics, praising Carter over Camp David talks and stressing Iowa pride, rail upgrades, and coal initiatives. He defended his decade in office as progress with stability and noted favorable reception statewide.
