Reversion Clause Still Delays Cedar Rapids Armory Bid
Legal wrangle over a reversion clause in the Cedar Rapids to Town guard land transfer has hindered bids for a 22,000 square foot armory at Cedar Rapids airport. The city would donate five acres with a return clause if unused. Guard officials seek AG opinion on a wording change to allow city return, with bids possible within 60 days and project funding 75 percent federally financed.

Consumer Protection Division Expands With Students and Trials
The Consumer Protection Division grew from one attorney to three lawyers a student and four secretaries. Two Drake law students and an undergraduate will work unpaid this week to bolster the team. Since inception, over 60 lawsuits have been filed with about 24 awaiting court action and roughly $1,000,000 recovered for consumers defrauded. About 25 percent of complaints reach court as many are disputes, arbitrations, or lack sufficient evidence. The division even uses undercover methods, including testing sales firms and fabricating evidence in a TV repair case to secure lawsuits. Garrett notes complaints continue rising, with no slowdown expected as thousands more arrive annually.
