Producers Co operatives Face New Function Amid Surviving Roles
A Cedar Rapids meeting called by the Farmers' Grain Dealers' Association and Ames extension service debated the future of producer co-ops in Iowa. Frank Robotka led the discussion noting co-ops have narrowed margins but lack new functions. Elevators could offer drying and brokerage, while trucking changes and tenancy affect co- op viability. Consumer co-ops rising may clash with producer co-ops as crossfields of commerce grow.
