Restoration plan endures for Knutson Building in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids developers insist the Knutson Building remains sound after a second flood and will be restored into apartments. The Hobarts completed emergency stabilization and demolition prep, with temporary beams in place and 13 dumpsters emptied. Restoration plans call for March start and fall 2017 completion, preserving the exterior while securing tax credits and environmental clearances. The adjacent Mott Building, built in 1900, reopened as 16 loft apartments after flood protections and prior car salvage.

Hobart Properties Survive Cedar River Flood No Water In Metropolitan
Hobart developers report the Metropolitan building in Cedar Rapids avoided flood damage as Cedar River water rose to 19 feet basement seepage began at 19 feet and reached basements at 27 feet. The 11 million six story project at 450 First St SW stayed dry. Hobarts warn a second major flood in eight years may chill downtown living and investment and urge a permanent flood barrier plan.
