A witness claims she relayed possible information about the 1979 Marta Martinko case to Cedar Rapids officials but police say the lead was not passed along. Detectors considered charging Floyd Bergen for failing to relay the tip, but officials discouraged action and the case remains unsolved.
Safety Commissioner Floyd Bergen rejects insinuations of withholding information about a possible witness in the Michelle Martinko murder. He cites political motives behind the accusations and says he would direct any information to police. Bergen defends his record including a $10,000 reward and denies any direct contact with the witness.
More than 60 post high school institutions are to participate in the Eastern Iowa College Fair October 13 and 14 at Kirkwood Community College. The event, in Iowa Hall, runs 7 to 9 p.m. October 13 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 14, with financial aid presentations at 7:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. respectively. The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and University of Northern Iowa will be represented. attendance is free with no reservations.
