Kincaid Illinois pupils joined a village strike after fathers walked out over mine wage cuts. More than 150 of 180 students stayed home in protest against coal from mines with lower pay being used to heat Kincaid High School. Classes opened with low attendance despite the principal’s vow to proceed. A nearby mine reopened under troop protection and supplied the school with coal.
One man was killed and another severely injured when a fishing boat named the Success II was blown to pieces near Monterey California by a dynamite bomb. The blast occurred Monday with Manuel Costa killed instantly in the pilot house. Authorities suspected foul play as the cause remains under investigation.

A tall bandit robbed the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank of Centerville on Monday 11 plus am taking about five thousand in cash from drawers while customers were ordered to lie down. He fled in a waiting car driven by a partner. no securities were taken. It was Centerville’s first bank robbery.
In Philadelphia Buddy McGinnis, 16, had hypoxemia and lived 10 days on a respirator. After Babe Ruth hit a first inning homer on Saturday, the boy began to breathe naturally, doctors crediting Ruth with assistance as well as a run and a hit in the World Series broadcast.
Boise Idaho reports that Mrs William E Borah wife of the U S senator continued to gain improvement Monday in a hospital where she is ill with psittacosis also known as parrot fever.
Chicago prosecutors say Samuel Insull Jr earned 374 400 in an overvaluation of securities during an exchange of stocks among Insull companies totaling 9 765 908. The probe ties to the Insull Utility Investments trust, which failed with heavy losses. Insull Sr valued shares far higher than market amounts, while Insull Jr arrived in Liverpool en route to Paris and denied plans for a future estate in England.
In San Francisco Mrs. Glennada Edge, 44, tried to walk into the ocean to end her life three times. her small dog kept pulling her back. Police arrived as she was treated at an emergency hospital, and the dog stood by licking her hand.
