Gateways Garden Grows From Neighborhood Effort in Iowa City
Jones, a 49 year old nurse and farmer at heart, started Gateways Garden on vacant lots at a Wellington Heights gateway. The project draws help from Coe College students Practical Farmers of Iowa and McKinley Middle School, with $5 500 from the Presbytery of East Iowa for a fence. Neighbors now pick vegetables and visit the space as an act of community renewal.
