Regis Royals Rally Past Prairie 14 8 in Hard Fought Clash

Regis high of Iowa City remained unbeaten at 3-0-1 after a 14-8 victory over Prairie. Tim Miller and Bob Beals combined for the Royals first-half scores, while Prairie’s Greg Fetter connected with Keith Young for the late TD and Bob Cleppe added the final Prairie spark. Stusak led Regis with 104 rushing yards, Lytle topped Prairie with 73 yards, and penalties plagued Regis while Prairie fought to the end.

Muskies Fall Flat as Wash Dominates Early Lead

Wash opened on a 7-0 run, led by Greg Witwer who scored four touchdowns including an 82 yard punt return. Witwer totaled 72 rushing yards, while Jim Conkling gained 99 and Jim Bassett 72 with a decoy role helping the backfield. The Muskies, 2-1 entering the game, failed to gain momentum after a poor start and were outpaced as they look toward next week’s Jefferson clash.

Marion Indians Roll Tipton 44 to 6 on Homecoming

Randy Wade rushed for three touchdowns and 165 yards as Marion built a 30 point first half lead and defeated Tipton 44 to 6. Terry Skilling and Gregg Anderson made key interceptions, while Coach Les Dollinger praised the defense amid late rally. Marion improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Wamac.

LaSalle trailed Benton Community 16-8 late before quarterback Dave Handley led a quick 60 yard scoring run after an 87 yard TD pass to Fran Boston. Handley added the winning touchdown as LaSalle stopped Benton on three plays late. Benton had led 16-8 after Tom Wessling connected with Tim Bruch.

Waterloo East Ends Long Unbeaten Streak in Close Win

Waterloo East, ranked No. 1, rallied from a halftime deficit for a 25-24 victory over Cedar Falls to extend their historic streak to 50 straight wins. Dullard rushed 130 yards with a late 1-yard TD, and Green sealed it with a key interception and late scoring drive. Cedar Falls fell to 3-1 despite a 7-0 start and Salamon’s 42-yard TD.

Playoff Game in Baltimore Delayed by Rain

The first game of the American League Championship Series between Baltimore and Oakland was postponed due to rain and wet grounds. League President Joe Cronin rescheduled Game 1 for 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Stadium and pushed game two to Monday, altering travel plans.
