Leoben Austria AP reports Peter Pfister was sentenced to death by court martial for involvement in the July insurrection that killed Chancellor Dollfuss. Pfister is the latest Austrian Nazi linked to the uprising and facing capital punishment.

He had been an applicant for Iowa old age assistance investigator positions and was attempting a perfect score on his final case when the incident occurred.
Cedar Rapids and surrounding officials advance a plan to build an eight foot stone dam at the Palisades to boost Cedar River recreation. Funds for materials are sought while state agencies meet in Des Moines to arrange a small additional allotment. Work to be done by Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon relief rolls and CCC personnel with a month start and March completion.

John Lyons, who helped trace the Lindbergh ransom note leading to Hauptmann’s arrest, said his newborn son will be named Charles Augustus after Col. Lindbergh. The baby, Lyons’s second son, was born Saturday night at Miseracordia hospital in New York.
