Utilities deploy crews to aid power restoral after Helene

Iowa utility Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy sent about 150 and 70 line workers to Virginia and Ohio to assist American Electric Power and Duke Energy in restoring power after Hurricane Helene. Crews from Iowa and Wisconsin join Appalachian Power efforts in Lebanon Richlands and Woodlawn Virginia, with assignments estimated at one to two weeks.

Black driver sues Iowa firm over dreadlock firing

Drew Harvey, 26, of Crete Illinois, alleges TMC Transportation fired him for dreadlocks after orientation. He says the hair policy was inconsistently enforced and violated Iowa Civil Rights Act. He observed non Black workers with long hair and cites another Black man fired for the same reason. Damages sought include wages and emotional distress.

Coralville man sentenced for Muscatine Jail assault

Jorey Daniel Butterbaugh, 33, a Coralville man linked to a white supremacist prison gang, received 78 months in federal prison for assaulting a Muscatine County Jail officer in 2023 while awaiting transfer. The sentence runs consecutively to his 12 year firearm and drug convictions.
