Allen “Snooks” Bouska faced a quick hearing at Marion City Hall where the review panel ruled his candidacy admissible under residency rules. Kiesling’s objection was denied. The meeting drew about 15 supporters with no witnesses for the challenger. Bouska plans to verify a mailing address and move to a Marion home they recently bought.
Patti Fields of Linn-Mar and Iowa City school board is nominated as president-elect of the Iowa Association of School Boards IASB. If approved at the Nov 16 delegate assembly she will become president in January for a two year term. Fields says IASB must regain trust and move forward with a new executive director and chief financial officer to address recent criticisms and turnover.
Iowa State Auditor David Vaudt has rejected a request to audit the Iowa City school district. He said the petitioned review falls outside his office scope though the district disclosed 2 million dollars in bookkeeping errors and a 25 thousand dollar IRS payroll tax late payment fine. The district has hired Synesi Associates for internal control work at 59 thousand dollars and aims to complete the audit by year end.
Construction crews opened new eastbound lanes on Interstate 80 in Iowa City, ending six months of shifted traffic into the westbound lanes. The project, part of a Johnson County widening effort, aims to remove the center barrier by next week and proceed to westbound widening next spring. Truck drivers reported dangerous narrow shoulders last spring after multiple incidents.
