Out-of-state investors sought Iowa Lottery buyout in 1996
Des Moines AP reports state officials were approached last year by financial interests seeking to buy the Iowa Lottery. Lottery Commissioner Ed Stanek says the idea was unworkable due to federal law. House Speaker Ron Corbett ruled out legislative debate. Gov Branstad and Sen Vilsack raised doubts as well. Stanek released a memo detailing the earlier consideration.
