Jones Wins PGA Crown In Playoff

Jones of Waterloo won the Iowa PGA title in a playoff at Cedar Rapids Country Club after tying 144 with Bob Stupple of Cedar Rapids and Joe Brown of Des Moines. Brown bogeyed the first playoff hole, Stupple failed on the second, and Jones claimed the crown. Stupple earned a Town PGA Seniors' crown with a 70 in the final round and a berth in the national tourney in Dunedin, Florida. Fry and Charles Wiele were reelected Iowa PGA officers.

Indiana Kerr Player of Week Named by Big Ten Writers

Indiana guard Bill Kerr, recently back from two years of army service, was chosen as the Big Ten Football Writers Association's Player of the Week. Kerr received five votes to four for Northwest ern’s Joe Abbatielia after a 52 minute effort in his first varsity game versus Notre Dame. Kerr, 24, 5 foot 9, 190 pounds, hails from Steubenville Ohio and played for the famed Steubenville high school squad in 1951 with Calvin Jones.
