Cuban hostage deal collapses in Oakdale standstill
In Oakdale Louisiana negotiators tied on a deal to free 26 Cuban inmates held hostages at the Federal Detention Center. The plan unraveled at signing time Friday as the prisoners balked leaving 26 captives still held. One hostage was released earlier and another evacuated after an attack. At Atlanta’s Federal Penitentiary officials hardened their stance as talks failed to progress.

Freed French Hostages Say Americans Held With Them
In West Beirut two French hostages Roger Auque and Jean-Louis Normandin were released and say they were imprisoned with two kidnapped Americans Joseph Cicippio and Edward Tracy. Marion woman 58 charged in escape of husband inmate
LaNeva Marie Pierce, 58, of Marion, aided her 29-year-old husband Tyrone Pierce, an Iowa State Penitentiary inmate, in an escape from the Augusta Minimum Security Farm near Fort Madison. She was jailed in Lee County. he is in solitary confinement awaiting escape charges. He had been serving a 25-year term for first degree robbery and attempted murder since 1978.
