Washington high school opened the 1964 65 season with a 97 80 home victory over Marion led by Sam Senti and Steve Ilten. Senti scored 22 on seven straight baskets as Washington pulled away from an 9 8 start, building a 49 25 halftime edge and using fast breaks and solid rebounding. Ames track coach Hi Covey, longtime Ames High School mentor, is in satisfactory condition after a slight stroke Wednesday. He was paralyzed on the right side and unable to talk after becoming ill at school. Covey guided the Little Cyclones to multiple conference titles since 1944 and also helped with football and basketball until two years ago.
