Iowa Insurance Commissioner Charles R. Fischer delayed a ruling on banning liability coverage limits in auto policies until action by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. About 40 officials and lawyers for 23 casualty firms attended the session as Fischer postponed enforcement of family only restrictions pending the hearing.
Jack Yager announced that a Tuesday Mystery Surprise Night at Yager's drew about 3000 people, the largest crowd in the 1936 opened store's history. Crowds extended closing to 9 45 p.m. as downtown shoppers joined the one store's event for an announced sale and unannounced specials.
The Power Commission approved the examiner’s recommendation to authorize Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company of Davenport to build a 411 mile natural gas pipeline. The line would boost service to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and is estimated to cost 1 million dollars.
Des Moines reports that support for starting the Moscow dam near Muscatine hinges on a national firm plan to build a 22 million dollar chemical plant in the area. The project faces state opposition but has FPC approval, with past court battles up to the U S Supreme Court.

Ronald Gene Friend died in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a brief illness. Survived by parents two sisters and multiple Bloomfield grandparents and great grandparents. Body moved to Wagler funeral home Bloomfield with services at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Memorial cemetery Cedar Rapids.
Marion Albert Faverty 93 retired North Western railroad roundhouse foreman and former Cedar Rapids resident died in Chicago Tuesday. Services by Rev. Allan E. Schoff at Turner chapel 1:30 p.m. Thursday with Mizpah lodge. Burial in Shiloh cemetery Louisa. Master Masons meet at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services for Joseph D. Janko of Swisher will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barta Hesser chapel led by Rev. Zdenek F. Pauk and Crescent lodge A F and A M. Coroner says death was by own action. Janko shot himself at home with a rifle. Master Masons to meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic temple. Janko not affiliated with Bohemian Moravian Brethren church as reported. Friends may call at the chapel.
Francis E Harrington died Monday at age unspecified. Services set for 10 a m Thursday at St Patrick s Church officiated by Rt Rev Msgr D J Lenihan. Burial in St Michael s Cemetery Norway. Rosary by St Joseph s Court 1360 Foresters and parish at 7 30 p m Wednesday at the chapel where friends may call.
Graveside services for Mrs. Frank P. Pokorny who died at Glidden will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Bohemian Moravian Brethren cemetery southeast of Ely by the Rev. Zdenek F. Pauk and Rev. Milo Filipi. The body arrives Cedar Rapids early Thursday and friends may call at Barta Hesser chapel until 10 a.m.
Arthur E. Brague a World War I veteran and Cedar Rapids resident for 29 years died suddenly Monday. Services will be at St Matthew's church at 10 0 am Friday led by Rev J D Kearn. Burial in Cedar Memorial Cemetery with Veterans of Foreign Wars at the graveside. Rosary at Turner chapel at 8 p m Thursday led by Father Kearn.
Eugene Bulkley 81 a Cedar Rapids resident for 25 years died in a local hospital at 10 a.m. Wednesday. He had been a longtime clerk at the Pullman hotel. There are no near surviving relatives. Services will be held in Beatty chapel at a time to be announced. Burial is planned at Cedar Memorial cemetery.
Mrs Krumbholz 62 of Espanola New Mexico died at noon Wednesday. She had lived many years in Mexico City and was survived by several relatives.
Thelma and three youths, all held on safe robbery charges, escaped from the Aledo jail after taking a deputy’s keys. They were recaptured days later in Denver by FBI agents. The escape occurred while Sheriff Cagle and deputies were briefly away, and a girl trusty reportedly found keys and a pistol before ordering inmates to another cell.
John F. Gaston 81 former Mt. Vernon mayor died Tuesday afternoon in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a stroke. Born November 17 1870 in Lisbon Ohio he moved to Mt. Vernon in 1913 with the Crandic line. He served as mayor from 1948 to 1950 resigning for health reasons. Survived by wife three sons a daughter nine grandchildren four great grandchildren and a sister. Funeral set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Vernon Methodist church.
The Iowa state auditor reported a $899 net shortage for the year ended March 31 due to lax handling of State Conservation Commission license funds. No embezzlement was found, and procedures were changed on November 1. As of June 30, 16 officers’ accounts showed over and short conditions and 31 counties were likewise short or over.

The Cedar Rapids waitress identified a second man downtown as the attacker after Polton pled guilty and received five years. Officials say the second man was working in a small town near Cedar Rapids the night of the incident, with affidavits in progress.
A proposed drive-in theater to be built between Cedar Rapids and Marion was disclosed after Des Moines men and a Marshalltown man formed a corporation to operate it. Twixt Town Drive-In Theater Corporation lists H. N. Schrodt as president and Des Moines officers R. G. Faulds E. M. Garbett and A. E. Thiele. Authorized capital stock is $100 000 with 1 000 shares of $100 each.
Cedar Rapids heads announce reservations required by 5 p m Thursday for Friday's Cedar Rapids Council of Social Planning luncheon at the YMCA. The meeting will cover recreation and leisure activities and include a Christmas planning survey report. Representatives from groups aiding needy families urged. call 33571 to reserve.
Herbert H. Smith 51 of route 2 is convicted by a nine to three jury after about three hours deliberation for lascivious acts with a child alleged to involve an 11 year old girl on August 23. Judge Penningroth set motion for new trial by December 17 and potential sentencing then. The offense carries up to three years in prison. Smith bonded at $3,000 remains in effect. Jury debated nine ballots with initial eight to four, later six to six, then all 12 voting guilty. County officials Willis A. Glassgow and Richard F. Nazette prosecuted. Jurors listed from Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas.
An 11 member Cedar Rapids jury found for Victor Lewis of Central City in a damage suit brought by Nick Nosbisch. Nosbisch sought 1 750 for injuries from a September 17 Cedar Rapids crash. Juror Joseph Estes was excused after revealing he once sold a truck to Lewis.
The Linn county board of supervisors met to set a December hearing on six county highways including Franklin Mayer road Jackson township and Charles Camp road Fayette. They approved vacating part of James Burns road and extending Burns highway. Fire petitions seek road surfacing near Waubeek and Mt. Vernon. A Boulder township road near Prairieburg was made a secondary district. A retail cigarette permit was granted to Roy Lange of Marion for Lange's inn at junction of Highways 151 and 13.
The November term petit jury panel, which was to report for duty Thursday, has been dismissed until Dec. 10 at 9 am, clerk of court Arthur Azmear said Wednesday. Cases set down for trial the rest of the week and next week have been rescheduled.
Axmear stated the matter has been continued or settled and the jury panel will not be needed until December 10, delaying further court action.
County Treasurer Frank F. Bates warns motorists that 1952 Iowa license plates require transferring car records to the new county treasurer. He notes movers rarely send records, delaying plate sales. Treasurers will begin selling 1952 plates Saturday.
The sheriff's office investigates the theft of 15 bushels of corn from the Paul Duella farm five miles west of Cedar Rapids on Highway. A bale of hay was also stolen from neighbor Bill Mullinix over the weekend, though Mullinix had not reported it by Wednesday noon.

Charles Peyton on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against J. C. Thomassen seeking 347 dollars alleged due on a promissory note delivered August 3 1950.
A nine man draft contingent left Cedar on Wednesday for induction into the armed forces in Des Moines. This group forms the second part of November's draft call, reduced from an original 18 after early enlistments and transfers. The enlistee is Duane E. Latta, 23, of Riverside.
A Chicago mother, Mrs Wilbur Jerger, was acquitted by District Judge Waldo H. Rogers of a reckless driving charge in Grants New Mexico after appealing a $25 fine and $11 costs. The case arose from an incident where she swerved to avoid a busload of schoolchildren.
Ivy G. Sanders a 31 year old Newton hotel chef pled guilty to assault with intent to commit great bodily injury in a bid to kill his wife by ramming a car on highway 14 near Newton. He received a one year sentence at Fort Madison from District Judge Frank Bechly after being indicted on assault with intent to murder. He was held on $10000 bond. The crash injured several people.
SAN DIEGO AP report says Sheppard Jr an airman and son of Roy W Sheppard of Manchester died in a Navy PBM crash off San Diego. He was among three officers and eight enlisted men killed Tuesday in the ocean.
Clarence Fitch, a farmer from northeast of Alburnett, was wounded in the left forearm when a shotgun on his tractor discharged while he harvested corn. He was taken to St Luke's hospital for treatment.
