ISU Animal Researchers Report On Dairy and Pig Studies
ISU researchers in Chicago report mixed results from dairy cattle and pig experiments. Dairy cows given half a pound of soybean oil daily showed no significant milk or fat content gains. In pigs, zymosan injections boosted weight gain by 16 percent and feed efficiency by 6 percent in high disease settings, with broader antibody responses observed when combined with certain bacteria. Additional findings cover lysine supplementation, restricted rations, self-feeding behavior, methimazole effects, and calcium carbonate in lamb rations improving digestibility and nutrient use.
