Machinist's Mate 3/c Dale L. Meyer of Norfolk leaves Norfolk on the destroyer John Hood with destroyer squadron 22 for duty in the Mediterranean. The unit will visit ports in the Mediterranean and northern Europe and spend holidays on the Riviera in southern France during NATO exercises with the Sixth Fleet.

Beck, a 1951 Franklin high school graduate, served two years in Korea and is a telephone and teletype operator in the signal corps after studying at Cornell College.

Plea for Longer Sentence Denied

In Indianapolis a retired army sergeant, Ver non Moran, asked for a longer jail term after being sentenced to 16 months for forgery. Judge Scott McDonald denied the request and ordered Moran to serve the shorter sentence, noting he must be a good soldier. Moran said it would be nice to have about two years in jail as his pension pays his debts.
