Branstad weighs sales tax for road repairs in Iowa
Gov. Terry Branstad floated using a portion of the state sales tax to fund road repairs. He cautioned the approach may lack constitutional protection and could be difficult to sustain. A 10 percent share of the first 2 cents would yield about 86.7 million annually, still short of the 215 million need identified by the Iowa DOT. Branstad also reiterated opposition to cutting the Renewable Fuel Standard while criticizing EPA rules and President Obama over ethanol policy.
