Coralville City Council approved bids to extend water service to the Crossings on Camp Boulevard. Bockenstedt Excavating will lay the water lines, costing about $800,000. Maxwell Construction Inc. will extend the sanitary sewer for roughly $289,000.
Coralville council approves amendments to grants for Crandie Rail Road floodproofing. A $7.1 million from the Economic Development Administration will raise the railway and add flood walls, while $2.5 million from Community Development Block Grants funds raising and extending the Clear Creek bridge from the Iowa River power restaurant area to Rocky Shore Drive. In Marion, the school board expelled a student identified as H V for the rest of the year after a confidential agreement with the parents. Hazen Vann, 18, faces third degree sexual abuse charges from two incidents at Marion High School on November 15 and 16 during school hours. The victim is a 17-year-old female.
A Cedar Rapids resident said a black Chevy pickup lost control around 2:15 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, broke two trees and a utility pole, then the right rear wheel flew off and struck her condo at 1211 74th St. NW, damaging siding gutter and drywall. The truck sped away with sparks.
Janaan Kraus finishes 60 state hand embroidered quilts as Christmas gifts for her eight children aged 38 to 52. The project began after six and a half years of stitching with transfers showing each state's flower bird and admission date. Walter Kraus assists with ironing and needle finding as the last panels await machine quilting.
