Nurses and researcher go on trial in Aceh visa case
Joy Lee Sadler a nurse from Waterloo and Lesley Jane McCulloch a Tasmanian University academic faced five years in prison if convicted on visa violation charges for contacting Free Aceh Movement rebels. The trial opened in Banda Aceh with judge Arsil Marwan adjourning to Wednesday.

Firms penalized for failing to call utilities before digging
The Iowa Attorney General penalties total 20,000 across three cases. C L Drainage of Strawberry Point must pay 15,000 for puncturing a BP gasoline pipeline in Delaware County. Owners Curt and Leo Bockenstedt were named in the ruling by Judge Alan L. Pearson. The other penalties were 3,500 for Engelbrecht Brothers Tiling of Eldridge in Scott County and 1,500 for Steve Shindelar of Ridgeway in Winneshiek County for not notifying the One Call center before excavation.

Loretta Fay Gronewold, 35, of Coralville, former University of Iowa secretary, faces second degree theft forgery and tampering with records for misappropriating more than $10,000 from 1998 to 2000. Police say $7,171 in checks and $2,231 in furniture purchases were involved. She appeared in Johnson County District Court and was released on her own recognizance.
