Donald Hadsell 39 of 40514 First Street SW was ordered back to Fort Madison prison for up to seven years after pleading guilty to obtaining merchandise by false pretenses. The former poultry larceny suspect bought items at Killian's to fund a liquor purchase and used his brother’s account. An accomplice, William Tiffany 53, received a one year sentence for larceny with most suspended until revoked by Judge Haas.
Mrs Hattie Garrelts of Elgin uses an axe and a wire-haired terrier to fend off three bull attacks and rescue 80-year-old Charles Meyer from a corral. The 1100 pound bull charges again at the barn but is halted by the final strike and the terrier’s interference.
Wilson and Company Inc meat packers directors declared a dividend of 1.50 a share on the 6% preferred stock for May 1 to July 31. The dividend is payable February 2, 1942 to stockholders of record January 16, 1942.
