Thanksgiving notices list numerous local households hosting guests and relatives from University of Iowa and other towns. Families at addresses on SE drive, Blake boulevard, Vernon drive, and nearby streets entertain relatives including students Bailey Finney and William Gray. Other guests hail from Davenport, Joliet, Elgin, Cedar Falls and Sterling Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Albert Nofal announce the engagement of their daughter Clara to George J Nassif son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Nassif. The ceremony will be Sunday afternoon at St John s Greek Orthodox church with a reception and dance at Z C B J hall that evening.
Thanksgiving dinner guests at Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Nehls 125 Twenty-sixth street drive SE included family members. At the Westerfields 1840 Bever avenue SE the gathering featured Miss James Lavery of Atlantic, Richard Westerfield and Miss Frances Westerfield, all connected to the University of Iowa.
The Waponita Camp Fire group held a dinner Tuesday followed by a varied program. Nedra McNabney performed a guitar solo, Norma Klein sang and danced, Arda Mae Cox and Betty Shrader played violin, Mary Louise Jesina played piano, and Marie Kathryn Morlan did a tap dance.
Mrs. Ray Lemen hosted a party at 216 Fifteenth Street NE in honor of her son Leon Ray’s first birthday. Guests included Mesdames George Baird Allie Lemen Jesse Bolon Herald Happel Ralph Day Ray Farris Jack Farris Robert Sailor James Callahan Albert Stoll Arthur Roberts and Laddie Lamb.
Miss Marjorie Rennekamp and Leonard Vinck were guests at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Davis in Yarmouth on Sunday.
B A Rice of Chicago spends Thanksgiving with his family at 827 Tenth Street SW. He is visiting Mrs. Margaret Rice and the Misses Edith and Martina Rice.
Miss Margaret Louise Meyn head of the dramatics department at Wyoming Community High School in Wyoming NL arrived Thursday for Thanksgiving weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs H G Meyn. She will serve as a permanent staff member and contributing editor for the National Thespian magazine, directing the column on Practical Dramatic Suggestions to Directors, after already writing several articles.
Mr and Mrs Franklin W Davidson of Spooner Wisconsin are Thanksgiving guests of Mr and Mrs F F Davidson at 1433 Third Avenue SE. They traveled via Dallas to attend the Texas Centennial and visited Shreveport Louisiana before continuing home.
The Daughters of Penelope meeting set for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Moose Hall has been postponed to Monday at the same time and venue.
Forty five women attended the Cedar Rapids Classroom Teachers Association bridge party Tuesday at Peoples church. Miss Opal Porter and the social committee organized the event with refreshments by the business women's class. Prizes went to Eleanor Montgomery first Retha Underhill second Doris Brockman sow Doreen Kobb door prize and Alice Charlesworth traveling prize.
Twenty three members of the Van Vechten guild met Tuesday for luncheon in the church parlors. Hostesses were Mrs Wallace Scheck and Mrs Henry Haegg. Guests included Mrs G A Cabinett and Mrs Herman B Kohl of Omaha. President Mrs Donald Lackey named Mrs George Claassen and Mrs Wallace Scheck to chair the Thanksgiving basket drive and reported on the bridge benefit and annual donation.
Plans were made for the Needlework Guild dinner scheduled for December 8 at the church with public invitation. Mrs. Lackey named committees including co chairmen L. E. Garwood and R. T. Termohlen and members James Shields Charles B. Moore Mahannah Scheck Vernon Barta Martin Bowman and others. The next meeting is set for December 22.
The women's missionary society of the First Presbyterian church is rescheduled to meet Friday December 4. Mrs. LeRoy Weld will host the gathering.
All Cedar Rapids Woman's Club members are invited to hear Miss Helena L. Willis, chief nurse at Iowa City Psychopathic Hospital, discuss Mental Health Friday at 2 30 p.m. The health education department sponsors the talk at the club home with a picnic luncheon planned at 1 p.m.
Mrs Anna Malek of 1606 Third Street announces the marriage of her daughter Elizabeth Malek to Capt Steve Stolba son of Anton Stolba The ceremony occurred June 17 in Nevada with Rev James O Simon officiating Elizabeth attended Van Buren school and Washington high school later trained in business She worked at John Blauls and in the office of L J Storey Now Capt Stolba has served on the police force fourteen years and holds the rank of captain

Mrs. William Leake hosted the W P C bridge club at her Robins home. Prizes went to Mrs. Milton Pflughaupt Mrs. Howard Hurt and Mrs. Paul Rose. Guests included Mrs. Miller Ditch and Mrs. Hurt of Robins. Next meeting at Mrs. Al LeClere's home.

The Jolly Sixteen will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. F. J. Burianek at 1220 First Street SW.

Rose Margaret Funke daughter of Mrs Johanna Funke Ossian became the bride of Walter Lechtenberg son of Clem Lechtenberg Festina in a St Francis church ceremony Tuesday. Rev Father Thiltgen performed the rites. Attendants were Marcella Funke and Roman Lechtenberg. A wedding dinner followed and a dance was held in Calmar that evening.
