First successful whole knee transplant announced by UPenn

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania announced the first successful whole knee transplant. Surgeon Dr Richard Schmidt performed the Sept 30 operation on 32 year old Susan Lazarchick to save her leg from amputation. The donor was an 18 year old man who died in a motorcycle crash. Lazarchick is expected to regain near normal use in two to three months with activities like swimming and cycling.

Iowa woman accused of bank fraud and double marriage

Glenda Bell, an Iowa woman, faces federal fraud charges for allegedly taking over 1 million dollars from a Minnesota bank while married to two men at the time. One husband filed suit claiming $1.3 million vanished. Bell was arrested in Corning and faced transfer to Minneapolis.
