The Daily Record notes a forecast of light snow in the north with rain or drizzle elsewhere on Tuesday. Highs in the 30s, colder mornings, and a warming trend toward week’s end with mainly 0.1 to 0.2 inch monthly precipitation. Normal highs 37-44, lows 20-26.
New water rates list charges per 100 cubic feet from 33 cents for the first 500 to 13 cents for amounts over 100000. Minimum monthly bills range from 1.65 to 52 dollars. A 5 percent late payment penalty replaces the prior 5 percent discount, with delinquency seen at 15 days for commercial and 20 days for domestic readings. City water customers outside limits pay 50 percent more.
The committee reported the United Fund negotiation outcome and took two other measures Monday. It approved the American Legion auxiliary proposal for poppy day next May 22 and took no action on a Muscular Dystrophy Association drive held Sunday, but suggested it join the United Fund if not against national policy.
Boston executive Bernard Ezhaya, 45, president of Industrial Relations Associates, was charged in New Haven with receiving stolen bonds from a multi-million-dollar heist of Canadian banks. He was arraigned with a $50,000 bond, tied to transporting stolen property across state lines. FBI said bonds used as loan collateral in New London banks. $76,000 recovered.
City and area residents will meet Tuesday at 7 30 PM at Swords Wrecker Service 2505 Johnson Ave NW to discuss voluntary annexation to address a sanitary sewer problem. The area includes 14 houses 7 duplexes and 2 apartment buildings with city officials from water sewer fire and health departments attending.

Polk county would get 12 representatives while Linn and Scott would have 6 each, tripling from two. A committee weighs dividing big counties into districts with county boards or agencies, proposing 54 senate seats using 1958 population estimates. Key counties named for one senate seat: Polk Black Hawk Clinton Dubuque Johnson Linn Pottawattamie Scott Woodbury. Nye notes five counties would join two senators. The plan has unanimous support and will be promoted in the 1959 legislature.
The widow of Chief Justice Stone died Sunday in Washington at age 85.
Funeral services for Mrs Clarence E Murphy are set for 10 Tuesday at Barta-Hesser’s chapel with Rev John K Moore of Asbury Methodist Church and at 3 30 pm at Egelhof Funeral Home in Dubuque. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel. The family invites contributions to the Heart Fund if desired.
Margaret A. Gmelin 74 widow of Max R. Gmelin died Monday after a long illness. She was born February 2, 1884 in Sterling Nl. Since March she lived with her daughter Maxine E. Gmelin a Garfield school teacher at 829 Third Ave SE. Surviving also a sister
The obituary notes Mrs. Gmelin of Clinton, a member of the First Methodist church, the PEO and Sunedeida club. The body will be moved from Beatty-Bearle's to Bragonier-Fay's in Clinton for services at 2:30 Wednesday, with burial at Memorial Park, Clinton.
Frank Synacek 63 of 961 Sixteenth St NE died Saturday. A Collins Radio shipping department employee for 16 years and World War I veteran born June 29 1895 in Cedar Rapids. Survived by wife Hedvika Vavra Synacek a daughter Mrs James Trimble a brother George and three sisters Mrs Milo Baker Mrs Frank Novak and Mrs John Knapp. Services at Kuba's 1:30 Tuesday with Rt Rev Msgr Maurice Sheehy burial St Johns. Rosary by Msgr A W Chihak at 7 p.m. Monday at funeral home.
Mrs H L Miller and Mrs Herbert L Miller of Palos Verdes Calif died Saturday. Surviving are her husband and son Donald and daughter Virginia Thompson both of Calif, her parents Earl Hite and wife of Cedar Rapids, and two Cedar Rapids sisters Mrs Alex Stechcon and Mrs Bernard Pagel. Services are Wednesday in Hollywood with burial at Forest Lawn.
Glenn E. Dagger of Milner hotel pleads innocent to grand larceny for allegedly taking a $45 coat from Rosen Tailor Shop on Saturday. He allegedly admitted taking the coat but claimed intent to pay. Other items include a damage suit by Amy Grace Joseph against Kenneth L. Butler and Bruce Van Metre over a Sept. 16 accident at Twelfth Avenue and Third Street SW. Maude Robbins sues to quiet Linn County land title. Public Finance Co. gains a $368.38 judgment against Velma and Keith Gardner and Reserve Life Insurance Co. Canal Insurance Co. dismisses its damage suit against Lewis Keith.
Emerson Cox 27 faced a bus dispute that escalated after his wife overpaid 30 cents. He punched driver John Cunningham, a crash followed, police cited a damaged fender, and Cox remained jailed at $1,000 bail awaiting a Tuesday hearing.
A 16 passenger and driver bus crash in Wickenburg Arizona Sunday night left fifteen passengers plus the driver injured when the vehicle rolled onto its side.
Linn county officers investigated two weekend thefts. At Cornell College a cash register in the social center was opened with a desk key and $89.65 in small change and checks stolen. A second theft involved fishing gear valued at $50 to $60 from a cabin. it was one of several cabin breakins with no other items missing.
John Anton Zacek 49 of 315 Twenty-seventh Ave SW was fined 300 dollars plus costs after pleading guilty to drunk driving. The charge stems from an accident Saturday at J Street and Eighteenth Avenue SW in the city.
Cincinnati AP report says 49 year old Myrtle Einhaus, two weeks married, could not stop a speeding car as police tried to instruct her to shut off ignition. Officer Elsworth Greiner pursued after his cruiser was sideswiped. she yelled she could not stop. The car struck a pole at the hill’s end.
