Bullying Incident Prompts Move to New School District

Bridgett Massman, 10, was allegedly kicked in the groin and held underwater in a West Delaware Middle School bathroom on Oct. 25. Her mother says the incident was downplayed as a typical girl incident and opened the family to transferring to another district. Bullying figures cited by national pediatric groups

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry cites that nearly half of all children face bullying at some point and 10 percent are bullied regularly. Estimates from NICHD and other bodies give millions involved, with 160000 students missing school due to fear. Authorities say school guidance on bullying varies and is debated.

Lowering Lake Delhi wouldn’t have averted dam failure

An Iowa draft panel report concludes that lowering Lake Delhi by up to 10 feet at flood onset would not have prevented the July 24 dam failure. The analysis found reservoir volume was too small relative to flood volume, and any created space would fill before peak flows.
