Des Moines AP reports a AAA of Iowa survey showing self service regular unleaded at 1.16 per gallon, up 3 cents from last month but 18 cents lower than a year ago. Regular self service at 1.19, up from 1.16 last month and well below last year’s 1.36.
Members of a Cedar Rapids church will dedicate a rebuilt section of their church Sunday following a devastating termite invasion. Details on page 4B.
The American Farm Bureau Federation reports a traditional 10 person Thanksgiving dinner will cost 25.95 dollars this year, down from 28.85 last year. Lower turkey, vegetable and cranberry prices drive the decline, with past costs noted as 24.51 in 1987 and 26.61 in 1988.
The Massachusetts Lottery Commission plans a Lottery-By-Phone service letting callers place bets with a security code. Officials say it would be the first such system in the nation. The caller is billed for the call and ticket.

The United States proposed resuming direct talks between Israel and its Arab neighbors on December 4 in Washington. The invitation followed three weeks of venue disputes and aimed to restart discussions after cables to Israel Syria Lebanon Jordan and Palestinian representative Faisal al Husseini. Jordan had accepted, while Israel and the Palestinian side staged objections and timing concerns.
