The wealthy broker formerly blamed for his wife’s debts was found to be in error. A reconciliation with Irene Curley Bodde, the Detroit divorcee he wed in 1926, is thought to have been prompted by his daughter’s return from Europe on October 21.

Federal Judge William H. Holly in Chicago upheld the constitutional validity of the federal wages and hours law in the first ruling of its kind since enactment. In a separate case, Holly fined a Chicago firm $20,000 for violations of the act.
The board demanded full records of wages paid at the Kansas City plant after the company refused examination. Holly ordered production of the records. Allied Golf Corp Chicago fined 20000 for falsifying overtime records and failing to keep overtime production records. 2500 due immediately with remaining in installments. about 5000 overtime owed to employees.
Honolulu AP reports Wallace M. Alexander a wealthy sugar man aged 70 died Wednesday.
New York dispatch reports actor Charles Boyer, recently demobilized French army private, is in the United States not on a propaganda mission. He emphasizes he is in America to fulfill movie contracts and that he is forty, with his wife Pat Patterson present.
At the National Grange convention in Peoria Illinois delegates backed keeping federal farm relief in place. They urged extending the Frazier Lemke act moratorium on foreclosures and raising land bank loan rates while maintaining an Argentine beef import embargo and prohibiting block booking and blind selling of film rights.

Near North Chicago Illinois the Chicago and North Western Winnebago passenger train derailed injuring several, with engineer Harry Anderson killed and fireman Stanley Mack of Elmhurst severely burned as the locomotive and first four cars left the track. Sheriff Kennedy probes a report the locomotive may have overtaken a handcar used by three railroad workers who fled the scene.
New York impresario Billy Rose proposed to run the bankrupt San Francisco fair entirely and invest up to 1 million dollars. He telegraphed the offer to Mayor Angelo Rossi, who passed it to Dan E. London, head of the 1940 fair committee, for consideration.
The National Farmers Union adopted a parity price program calling for the Agriculture secretary to fix a higher of production costs or parity price and a pool to cover the difference. The convention also approved dairy, debt adjustment, and farm tenancy measures with a cow quota proposed to curb production without destroying cattle.
William Green of the American Federation of Labor accuses Assistant Attorney General Thurman Arnold of a grave perversion of the law in listing labor union acts as punishable under anti trust statutes. He seeks clarity from Attorney General Murphy on whether the Clayton act exempts unions from Sherman anti trust prosecutions.
