Two Truckers Escape in Wreck and Fire Near Cedar Rapids
Nels Larson age 29 and Lawrence Cox age 19 of Fort Dodge were trapped in a burning Chicago bound truck eight miles east of Cedar Rapids on Highway No 30 around 12:30 a.m. Monday. They escaped by smashing the windshield and were taken to St Luke's hospital. Cox suffers a fractured middle vertebra while Larson had burns and cuts. Larson aided deputy Payn back to the scene and described turning onto the road shoulder to avoid an oncoming car as the truck veered into a ditch. The fire started in the motor and the truck was badly damaged.
