Revamp saves C R half million in city costs

Cedar Rapids officials estimate the shift to a city manager and part time council form will cut administrative costs by about 500000 yearly versus 1100000 under the previous commission government. Interim human resources director Conni Huber noted the change after City Manager Jim Prosser announced four support staff names.

City Officials Costs Highlight Budget for 12 Full-Time Staff

Cost comparison shows the mayor and fifth commissioner each have two full-time assistants. The five commissioners plus a full-time executive assistant total 12 employees with $1.07 million in personnel costs in the current budget. Prosser and four administrative assistants cost about $430,000 annually, plus $150,000 for the nine-member council. Eight council members earn $15,000 yearly, the mayor $30,000.

Linn County to Accept Jones County Trash for Landfill

The Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency board voted unanimously to negotiate a contract with Jones County to bring Jones County garbage to the Linn County landfill at Highway 13 and County Home Road on Marion’s border. The decision follows a December agreement between the agency and Marion to expand the site and end litigation.
