Maytag Corp moved its shareholder meeting to December 22 to vote on Whirlpool Corp’s 1.7 billion offer. Eligible shareholders on record as of November 2 may vote. Whirlpool, based in Benton Harbor, Mich., agreed to buy Maytag in August. close expected in Q1 2006. Maytag stock rose to 17.76 and Whirlpool to 81.24 in afternoon NYSE trading.
Four to eight years earlier CMG2 formed as a stock investing partnership with $20 monthly contributions. Kitty Rehberg, former state senator, recalls prayer groups and slumber parties at her Des Moines home during legislative sessions. Senate GOP leaders propose using 5 million dollars yearly from the Iowa Values Fund to grant 25 000 incentives for installing E85 pumps and storage tanks. The National Retail Federation now expects holiday sales to rise 6 percent, up from 5 percent, citing better October sales and lower gasoline prices after Katrina. NRF notes this is the first official upgrade for the holiday season. Caveat from ICSC economist cites 3 to 3.5 percent for same store sales.
