Eisenhower orders budget cuts across federal agencies

President Eisenhower directed all federal agencies to live within bureau budget recommendations with national security as the only exception. The move targets the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1, with the 79.2 billion current-year estimate noted by James Hagerty. Defense spending will be reviewed with McElroy visiting Augusta for talks.

Two Hurt In 3 Car Crash And Fire Near Vinton

Special to The Gazette reports a three car collision near Vinton Iowa left Ralph Byam 33 in critical condition with 40 percent burns, Algene Helms 39 in poor condition, plus four minor injuries and a child with minor injuries. The crash occurred about 5 40 p m on a Friday on highway 10 near Vinton as a westbound pickup struck Byam’s car, igniting burning gas and spreading fuel across the road. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and investigators listed the other injured as Mrs Helms daughter Mrs Richard Shannon 21 and her grandchildren Carla Helms 3 Greg 2 and Robert 1 with various cuts bruises and a cut lip. Patrolman Lloyd Patterson and officials from the Benton county sheriff office assisted.

Three Die in Crashes Today Town News

Three people died in Saturday morning crashes in Iowa. Arnold Smoot, 52, of Roseville Illinois. Dzentra Straudovskis, 16, Maquoketa. and William H. Moore, 44, Moline Illinois were killed near Maquoketa Tipton and Eldora. One Moore passenger hospitalized in Quad Cities. trucker Eldon Werling of Tipton in hospital in Iowa City. Fog blamed in Eldora crash. toll now 538 this year.

WAUKON Iowa July death ruled natural causes by coroner's jury. Link 64 died Friday night likely from a heart attack provoked by excitement.
