Ex-Kirkwood standouts lead Saint Francis into Iowa State clash
Van Der Leest and Allison, captains of Saint Francis, return from injuries to lead the Red Flash in the season opener against No. 22 Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum. Van Der Leest, a junior forward, sat out most of last season with a stress fracture, while Allison recovered from knee surgeries and returns as a senior guard and leading scorer candidate. The pair, both from Kirkwood and Iowa natives, emphasize leadership as they aim to defend the Northeast Conference title and challenge Iowa State under coach Bill Fennelly.
