Gargantua the Great a famed circus gorilla dies at 20

Gargantua the Great, a 5 ft 7 in gorilla weighing 312 pounds, enjoyed celebrity status for 13 circus seasons. Sold to Mrs Gertrude Lintz for 3500 dollars, he inspired modern myth with a snarling left lip from acid damage and a famed name chosen by Henry Ringling North. He toured with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey until his death in 1949 at age 20 from asthma pneumonia and skin cancer, remembered as best old slob in the world.
