Cedar Rapids schools brace for budget after enrollment drop
Cedar Rapids Community School District reports a 337 student decline this year reducing certified enrollment to 14,567 about 2.3 percent. Officials say the budget for fiscal 2026 starts July 1 2025 and ESSER funds expired in September. Superintendent Tawana Grover calls the period a perfect storm of enrollment and facility needs as the district plans to protect classroom quality.

Riverside Casino Petitions Delay in Linn County License Case
Riverside Casino and its nonprofit affiliate filed with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission for a declaratory order to halt a Cedar Rapids license decision and asked to pause Linn County licensing. UI fraternity faces hazing investigations at Iowa campus
A University of Iowa chapter of Alpha Delta Phi is under university and national scrutiny after police found 56 pledges in hazing conditions at a Riverdale area house. A man, Joseph Antonio Gaya, 21, hindered officers during the incident and was later arrested on a suspicion of interfering with official acts. The fraternity suspended the chapter pending a third party inquiry.
