New Testament Translated Into Gullah Creole on Sea Islands
The New Testament has been translated into Gullah, the Southeast coast creole language spoken by Sea Island descendants. Begun in 1979 with Pat and Claude Sharpe of Wycliffe Bible Translators, the effort aims to preserve Gullah, with about 250000 speakers in four states and 10000 using it as their main language. The 2006 edition by the American Bible Society features English margins and a sample John 1 1. Translation may lead to an Old Testament version in years to come.
