In Cedar Rapids Travis Standlee faced a judge who, asked to speak, told reporters he did not kill Sharon Mead and condemned a jailhouse snitch’s false statement as the basis for the conviction. The judge ordered the second-degree murder sentence to run consecutively to the 50-year term.
Travis Standlee, 45, was given a 50 year term for the September 11 2015 strangulation death of Sharon Mead 41 in Cedar Rapids. A prior 50 year sentence for the murder of Raymond Ursino 55 was ordered to run consecutively. The case notes a history of abuse in Texas before the Iowa crimes.
Mercy Medical Center won state approval to launch a cardiac surgical program in Cedar Rapids despite objections from UnityPoint St Luke's. The hospital filed for a certificate of need required for new services and equipment above 1.5 million dollars and plans to recruit surgeons to grow its heart team. Mercy averages 150 annual transfers for cardiac procedures, with total cardiac activity supporting a full program once established.
