City officials and consultants say rebuilding the public library central fire station and animal control shelter is the clear path using FEMA disaster relief funds. About 180 residents attended the third open house on city buildings, following earlier sessions.
The Iowa Insurance Commissioner asked federal authorities to waive part of the flood insurance requirement for Cedar Rapids due to the high cost after the June 2008 flood. Finance Director Casey Drew said a waiver, if granted, could save the city substantial funds in the wake of the incident.
Concord NH report says many Santas seek vaccine priority due to obesity risk and frequent contact with children. Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas held an H1N1 seminar urging hand sanitizer and vitamins. Santa America urged Alabama congressman to designate Santas as a high priority group. Dartmouth official cautioned against mass gatherings.
Iowa will deploy its first automated snow gates this winter on I 35 at exit 194 and on U S 18 near Mason City to replace risky snowplow blockades. Gates will be remote controlled from the plow truck with caution lights and a streetlight, and are expected to be about 15000 dollars each and ready in January.
