Iowa City University Hospitals administrators and SEIU Local 199 nurses dispute the impact of temporary agency nurses on care. SEIU president Lauri Rey says longer waits for discharge and non urgent services occur as veteran staff mentor travelers. Nursing officer Linda Everett says there is no evidence that temporary nurses lengthen delays. Between March 1999 and Oct 25 this year the hospital contracted 118 temporary nurses, two thirds traveler nurses.
